When and why did QCRED form?
QCRED formed in May 2006, in response to the Henry Report after 6 racialized faculty members resigned citing racism as a reason for their departure. The report documented a “culture of whiteness” on the Queen’s campus. Concerned students, staff and faculty gathered to discuss what could be done to help improve the situation for racialized peoples on campus. Through this, a committed group of individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds formed hoping to mobilize a community to address the presence of racism on campus.
Who is QCRED?
QCRED is composed of staff, students and faculty. We have a board that works to create our programming that fulfils our mission statement and guiding principles.
Is QCRED only for People of Colour?
QCRED is not just for People of Colour, however QCRED strives to serve historically marginalized racial and ethnic groups first rather than focus on white guilt and privilege. We welcome those who are willing to be reflective of the ways in which power dynamics manifest and operate.
What does QCRED do?
QCRED aims to create a more anti-oppressive environment for historically marginalized racial and ethnic groups on campus through education, community organizing and advocacy. We provide programming, events and lobby the administration to accomplish these goals.
Where is QCRED located?
QCRED is located on the 3rd floor of the John Duetsch University Centre (JDUC) at 99 University Ave. at Union St. We are directly across from the elevator and our office is wheelchair accessible.
